Rare Replay, a collection of classic Rare titles is set to release on August, 4th, 2015.
Beginning Friday, Xbox allowed fans to preorder and preinstall the digital version of Rare Replay. After doing this, I noticed that my console began downloading 10 different games. I reached out to Rare on Twitter and they clarified a few things.
First of all, you are getting a collection of Rare games prior to the Xbox 360 and then unlocking the Xbox 360 Rare games via backwards compatibility. This explains the 10 games that were being installed. This was confirmed by Rare via twitter:
The bulk of the classic games are pieced together under “Rare Replay” and then you unlock a BC (backwards compatible) version of the following games: Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark Zero, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Viva Pinata, Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise, Kameo, and Jetpac Refuelled. This further clarifies that there is no cosmetic improvements to any of the 360 games, since you are simply just unlocking the 360 version.
Second, and probably more interesting, is that there aren’t separate achievement lists for the 360 games. This was again, confirm by Rare via tweet:
While the announcement of Rare Replay got a lot of folks excited with the idea of 10,000 gamer score in one package, it’s important to note that if you’ve earned any achievements in any of the 360 games previously, those carry over. So, if you earned 1000g on the 360 version of, say, Viva Pinata, you can’t earn them again.
Finally, in the last tweet, Rare also mentioned that any already unlocked achievements would unlock bonuses in Rare Replay. So, if you did play a lot of the 360 Rare games, chances are when you load up Rare Replay you will be greeted with a handful of bonus content based on the achievements that you’ve earned before.
